Friday in Steamboat Springs, Old Man Winter and Mother Nature had a torrid love affair.
On Friday, high winds gusting up to 79 MPH forceed the closure of all lifts at the Steamboat Ski Resort...in fact, damaging the communications line on the Elkhead lift.
The awful weather on Friday wasn't exactly what the Downtown Steamboat retail merchants had hoped for on the first day of the Annual Sidewalk Sale. But the lack of lift-served skiing brought shoppers downtown as no one would have ever expected.
On Saturday morning, Steamboat woke up to a gorgeous blue-bird morning. Fresh snow was sparkling across the Yampa Valley, and the air was cold and crisp.
The rest of the weekend was spectacular! The skiing at Steamboat was good, with Spring skiing conditions prevailing by Saturday afternoon. With not a cloud in the sky for the rest of the weekend, it was truly an SPF 55 weekend!
Ski season is almost over in Steamboat. Get your runs in before closing day! See you in Ski Town USA!
